Alex Stanke dominates Doubleroo-Churchie Term1 Rapid

Picket fence for Alex Stanke

Winning a seven round event with a two point margin is always an impressive performance, even more so in such a strong field. He never looked in serious trouble in the games I saw with the possible exception of his game against Tom Maguire. When I last looked at the game Tom had nice white square control and double Alex's time but good players swindle their way out of trouble...if my assessment was correct.
As mentioned, the field is getting stronger every time. Just looking at the field one sees several present and past Australian junior prizewinners and most of Queensland's leading juniors. We have a great team now, led by Churchie's mater of chess, Max Condon, Arbiter Tyson Walker, and a wonderful team of parents who look after the bbq and the tuckshop and lots of other little jobs.
Thanks to all involved.

First I'll present the results for you, then some pictures of the proud prizewinners.

There were quite a few players who needed to stand to reach the pieces. Nice to see but even nicer was that they were not on the bottom boards! At least 3 five year olds participated.

The open was incredibly strong but again age did not determine standings.

The prizewinners of the grade 1-6 were,

Arden Young 3rd

Ethan Hung 2nd
Marcus Su winner.
Many Queensland juniors got terrorised by Yi Liu until he mercifully graduated. Look out, here comes his younger brother Henry. He won the prize for the youngest competitor. If you want to beat this young man you had better track him down now. By the time he is eight it might be too late.

Henry Liu Youngest competitor.
The open was tough for the U800's because there were not so many of them. This edition was very top heavy but that meant invaluable experience for those not used to this level of competition.
I missed 3rd place Luis Weeks but have the other two for you.

Sam Houghton 2nd
Ben Stephens winner U800
Now for the main event. Tom Maguire and David Liu tied for second place, Tom winning the tiebreak.

David Liu 3rd
Tom Maguire runner up
Alex Stanke winner.
Thanks to all involved and I hope we see you next time.
